    First LEGO League | BioGlowGrades 2 - 4Instructor, Katie Davis, Shirley Hills Technology SpecialistIn BioGlow Future Edition, First LEGO League teams participate in a game experience centered around biodiversity, using LEGO Education Computer Science and AI kits. Teams will collaborate to build and code wireless hardware to advance their skills and solve missions in this new interactive alliance-based game across the mat during the two and one-half minute matches. Through their Innovation Project, they will dig deeper and learn more about biodiversity and how the balance between nature and humans keeps our world healthy. At the end of the season, students will participate in the Explore Festival. Teams will showcase their models and "Show Me" posters, meet with reviewers (family, friends, school staff) and celebrate their accomplishments! Week 3 - Chemical Engineering | Witch's Brew Students experiment with different materials to create a bubbling, chemical-reaction powered witch's brew. Week 4 - Mechanical Engineering | Propeller Car Students get a hands-on lesson in air powered thrust and inertia as they design and test a propeller car.

    Intro to Competitive RoboticsGrades 5 - 7Instructors, Nathan & Breana NortonIntro to Competitive Robotics is a program in which students in Grades 5-7 design, build, program, and test an autonomous robot using LEGO Spike Prime to complete a set of missions. Students will learn how to research, problem solve, code and engineer throughout the program. Their creativity, ingenuity, and hard work will be presented at the regional tournament. The regional tournament is organized by First LEGO League Challenge, an international organization that encourages middle school students to engage in robotics. (For more information on First LEGO League visit www.firstlegoleague.org/about) At the tournament, our students will be judged on a presentation that highlights a solution they researched and developed to address a real-world problem facing engineers today. They will also be judged on building and programming a LEGO robot to navigate missions. The coaches will act as facilitators, guiding students in building a robot, researching new solutions and understanding core values.Prior knowledge of robotics or programming is not required. Students will learn all skills throughout the program.Tournament season: Weekly team meetings will be held at Westonka Middle School immediately after school. We will start meeting at the beginning of the school year and continue until the tournament. Coaches will coordinate with parents if more meetings are needed as the tournament time approaches.
