Join woodcarver Matt Bruch in creating a loon to adorn your mantel or bookshelf. In this students will transform a 7' x 3" basswood block into a carved and painted figure. We will practice several knife grips to safely and effectively shape the wood. Students will learn techniques for applying paint and a wax finish. We will also cover how to sharpen and maintain tools. Participants are expected to bring their own knife and safety glove to class. Please see the special notes below regarding required tools and how to rent or purchase them. Materials (wood blanks, paint, brushes and wax) will be provided.
